Back Bay Ringers is excited to sponsor Boston Orff, an AOSA approved Orff Schulwerk levels course running July 6-17.
Orff Schulwerk is a joyful approach to exploring music with children that values a sense of play, creativity, and musicality. Boston Orff Levels Course is dedicated to bringing that sense of play, creativity, and musicality to participants in the course by creating an environment that centers the participants’ creative voice, and that is supportive and caring with an uncompromising focus on artful musicality. Our course values and honors the core philosophy of the Schulwerk, while exploring how that approach can be applied in our diverse, modern classrooms. Our hope is that all participants will experience personal growth as musicians, creators, and educators.
Orff Schulwerk is an active, participant driven, learning experience. Participants will be actively moving, playing recorder, and participating in creative music making that explores the hallmarks of Orff Schulwerk pedagogy. Participants will have homework assignments that could require up to an additional 90 minutes in the evening including readings, written assignments/reflections, and practicing recorder. These assignments are a critical component of the course, and are required to receive a satisfactory completion of the course. Teacher educators will provide any additional assistance as needed. Our dedicated faculty wants every participant to feel successful in our course.
Movement is a key component of Orff Schulwerk training. We will have 75 minutes of dedicated creative movement instruction. Participants with physical or medical challenges that may impede movement are encouraged to communicate these challenges to the instructors prior to the start of the course so that accommodations can be met. It is our belief that everybody can move beautifully in their own way.
