Did you know that Back Bay Ringers turns 15 years young this spring? It’s true! As I write to you, our faithful friends, to thank you once again for your support in concert attendance, volunteer hours, and contributions, I think back to the milestones we’ve hit along the way since that first concert in 2004. Through great leadership and help from a talented and creative Artistic Director, a group of fabulous musicians, and a strong Board and supportive Advisory Group, this young organization has:
Commissioned nine handbell compositions
Recorded three CDs
Hosted three handbell workshops
Co-hosted 12 years of the Boston Handbell Festival in partnership with Old South Church, which enabled us to give 12 sets of handchimes to Boston area schools
Partnered with the Boston Children’s Chorus, Boston Pops, Handel & Haydn Society, Boston Conservatory, New England Conservatory, Wellesley College, and Boston University
Established a “Season of Giving Back” spring concert program benefiting area nonprofits
Expanded our musical instruments to 6+ octaves of bells, 6 octaves of chimes, and numerous percussive instruments that enhance our craft
In the coming years we will scale our programs and our reach, and have set some ambitious goals, which include to:
Welcome our alumni and friends for a special Reunion Weekend andConcert in June, 2019.
Record our fourth CD, this time focusing on Americana music.
Expand our board and advisory group membership.
Expand our partnerships with area nonprofits, such as our work with the editor of the anthology Bullets into Bells in our spring 2019 “Season of Giving Back”program where we will focus on the issue of eliminating gun violence.
